Sasaab is perched above the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, capturing panoramic views across the culturally rich Samburu land, Laikipia plateau and Mathews Range. This area is truly wild with an astounding number of animals from huge majestic elephants to lions, leopards, cheetahs and the ‘Samburu Special Five’: the Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Grevy zebra, Gerenuk antelope and Somali ostrich.
The lodge is based on the Ngutuk-Ongiron Group Ranch, and was built using local materials with a Moroccan twist that makes it unique.

Sasaab has a main swimming pool, built on the hillside overlooking the river and if you are traveling in a group of friends or family, I would recommend the family suite, rooms 8-9, that have a shared central area and can be taken as an exclusive villa, with separate access. Extra beds can also be added but this is subject to availability.
At Sasaab children under three years stay for free and baby-sitters are available.

TRAVEL TIPS
Temperatures in Kenya remain fairly consistent throughout the year, because of its location spanning the equator. Sasaab is in the Northern Frontier district, which extends from Samburu to Kenya’s northernmost borders. This interior region experiences slightly higher temperatures than the rest of the country and with cold evenings consistent with the desert climate.
N.B: Sasaab often closes for two weeks in November for maintenance.

REMARKS
Explore Inc. founder Cherri Briggs. remarks on Sasaab Samburu "I love the amazing huge Swahili vibe tents, furnished with inlaid-wood, four-poster beds; views over the endless horizon of desert palms; the vibrant Samburu people, and the walking safaris with camels made famous by them—all in a rolling, semi-desert landscape.”
